Condolence & Memory Journal

Hi Jean and family - I hope you won't mind a "belated" note of condolences here - as I also note that today is the 2nd anniversary of Cal's passing. In fact I had been living (until recently) outside the US, and was unfortunately not aware of his passing until a few days ago - when I was attempting to look him up to reconnect.

What a loss for you, and for many! Hopefully you're consoled by the fact that - as you well know - so many people were positively touched by "Coach Cal"! I was on his first team at MIT in the late '70s, and we were of course the beneficiaries of his many contributions - in knowledge and skill, but equally so in character, friendship, and a deep and well-shared joy for living. Cal is deeply missed, but also fondly remembered by all of us!

Best wishes,
Tom Griffin MIT '80

I played for Coach Cal in 1974 and 1975. He made a huge impact on all of us. He was passionate, dedicated, knowledgeable and loved baseball. I'll always remember Coach Cal. A great guy and mentor. Rest in Eternal Peace. M.Moon

It's the coaches that had unbounded passion for teaching that had made and left the biggest impression on me.

Coach Cal was far and away in a league of his own. Thanks Cal.

Coach Cal passed the loving torch of good example, fair play and honest sportsmanship to generations of young players. That will always be his enduring legacy for as long as his players live. These were the same qualities he brought to his daily work in the registry of deeds. Over time, through many years of study, his vast mastery of the many complicated nuances of registered land took shape and by the time he stepped down, he was the acknowledged expert whom we all relied upon and learned from. We all remember many kind and characteristic acts of kindness and help.
