Obituary for Mrs. Colleen (Jordan) Shinney

December 4, 1964 - March 22, 2020
Lakeville, Massachusetts | Age 55

Colleen Jordan Shinney (Queenie) of Lakeville, Massachusetts passed away at Sawtelle House in Reading, Massachusetts from metastatic colorectal cancer on March 22nd at the age of 55.

Colleen is predeceased by her parents, Patrick F. Jordan, Jr. and Kathleen A. (Canniff) Jordan of Stoneham. She is survived by her cherished son Mathew (Mattie Boy) who lives with his loving father, Brian Shinney; her siblings Patrick Jordan and wife Katherine; Kimberly Plourde and husband PJ; Eileen Madigan and husband Tim; and Meaghan Meyers. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Patrick and Riley Jordan; Jennifer and Julia Plourde; Maggie, Thomas, and Molly Madigan; and Jack, Keira, and Delaney Meyers. Colleen also leaves many relatives and cherished friends, including her cousin Jessica Dapper and husband John; her Godmother Elaine Coggins; and girlfriends Karen Player, Kathy Cosgrove, Kelley Grealish-Kelly, and Kerri Weed, among countless others.

Born on December 4, 1964, Colleen grew up in Stoneham, Massachusetts and attended Stoneham elementary public schools. In 1982, she graduated from Matignon High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fitchburg State College in 1986 and spent more than 20 years working as a marketing professional in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry. Throughout her career, Colleen demonstrated an unmatched work ethic and dedication to her employers.

Colleen entered the world as a colicky infant and lived the entirety of her life with an unrivaled feistiness. She challenged many to arm wrestling matches, and often won. Her tenacity was never more evident than in 2013 when she survived near-death illness. She bravely faced her cancer diagnosis and fought through several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. September of 2019 marked five years in her fight for sobriety.

She not only maintained relationships with family and friends throughout her life, she continued to form new friendships wherever she went.

Some of Colleen's most cherished memories include anything and everything with Mattie Boy as well as family vacations on the Maine beaches of Wells and Ogunquit.

She took pride in her Irish heritage and travelled to Ireland twice. She loved to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with family, and introduced many to her favorite Irish band, the Saw Doctors. Colleen had a fierce loyalty to family and friends and lived by the motto taught to her by her father "family first." We will always remember her devotion and loyalty to those she loved and will carry some of her fighting spirit in all of us. Colleen's family wishes for her to enjoy sweet, eternal peace in the arms of our loving parents.

A celebration of life for Colleen will be held at Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street, Stoneham, Massachusetts in the future when all who loved her can be together.

In lieu of flowers (and as her mother directed in her own obituary), we ask that you take a friend to lunch when it is safe to do so.

Donations for the care and education of Colleen's son, Mathew, can be made payable to the "Colleen J. Shinney Trust" C/O Kimberly Plourde, 11 George Street, Stoneham, MA 02180.
