James E. Moynihan Jr. of Andover, formerly of Reading, passed away on August 22, 2016 at the age of 84. James was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother.
James enjoyed a long and distinguished career as one of New England's leading bank analysts. He played an active role in many mergers and acquisitions that shaped New England's Banking landscape, but also considered an expert beyond New England. James was interviewed and quoted widely in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Barron's as we'll as the Boston Globe on a variety of banking topics. The Boston Herald referred to him as "The Oracle on Bank Stocks". He would often be seen being interviewed on the local TV news channels when ever breaking New England Banking news events would occur. James attended and played ice hockey for Harvard University and graduated with the class of 1955. During that time he played in the first two Beanpot Hockey Tournament's. He was inducted into the Boston Latin Athletics Hall of Fame. Because of his love for hockey James co-created the Reading Youth Hockey program. James proudly served his country for the United States Army during the Korean War.
James was the beloved husband of the late Eileen (Kelly) Moynihan. Devoted father of Kelly O'Toole and her husband Timothy, Ciara Moynihan, James Moynihan III and his wife Arlene, John Moynihan and his wife Denise, Timothy Moynihan and his wife Peg and Maura Moynihan. Cherished grandfather of Michael, Sean, Kristi, Liam, Jack, Keenan, Taylor, Terence, Megan, Jamie and Brenna. Brother of Carol Nealon and her late husband Dave, Ellen Moynihan and the late Janet Simmons and her surviving husband James. James is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. James was the dear son of the late James E. Moynihan and Estelle (Bublis) Moynihan.
In lieu of wake please join the family to celebrate the life of James on Sunday, August 28th 4-8pm at Montvale Plaza, 54 Montvale Ave. Stoneham, MA. Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT28), STONEHAM, Monday August 29th with visitation from 8:30-9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating James' Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham at 10am. Parking attendants and elevator are available at the funeral home.
