Obituary

Robert A. Mercer Jr, of Stoneham, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

Robert or Bob as he was called, was born in Somerville, later moved to Lexington, where he grew up with his sisters. Robert is the son of the late Robert A. Mercer and Jenny (Sainato) Mercer. Bob was a very proud Veteran having served in the United States Airforce from 1952 to 1956. He was also a very active member of the Melrose VA Post. He always enjoyed the Veterans celebrations by attending the Lexington Parades. Bob was a salesman for Sears Roebuck of Saugus until he retired at the age of 63. He stayed very active after retirement by working part time for the Senior Center in Melrose driving the seniors to and from various appointments. He very much enjoyed going to sit by Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield and enjoy an ice cream, one of his favorite treats. Bob had an extreme love for hockey, as a youth he skated and was part of the 1950 Lexington High School Varsity Hockey Team. Bob skated well into his 60's. He also enjoyed catching sunshine rays while outdoors.

Bob is the father to Deanna Slatton and husband David, Darlene Bruen and husband Steve, Robert Mercer and wife Kristin, Lori Masucci , Jennifer Scribner and husband Paul, and Mark Mercer. He is also the grandfather to Samantha, Michael, and Cameron Slatton, Cassidy, Camille and Claire Bruen, Domenic and Anthony Masucci, Nicholas and Andrew Mercer, and Caleb, Calen, Calista, and Calex Scribner. He is the Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bob is also survived by his 5 sisters Lilla Facciola of Naples Florida, Mickey Barbagello of North Reading, Judy Farnell of Naples Florida( formerly Everett Ma) Rosemary O'Conner No Charlestown SC. and Genevieve Cormier of Plymouth Ma.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main Street Stoneham (RT 28) on Tuesday November 19th, 2019 at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Robert's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Monday November 18th, 2019 from 4 to 6 pm. Parking attendants and elevator available.
